Link Love

The Boston Apple Store is the lack landlines in their home.

T-Mobile now lets you block unwanted messages or calls. Say goodbye to those phone stalkers!

According to a survey by IDC and Nortel, for over a third of people, their cellphone is the most important thing in their pocket. What gadget can you not live without?

Effective today, AT&T will only accept credit cards when purchasing an iPhone. Cash or check will no longer be accepted.

Are they as funny as they used to be?

Hands-Free Umbrella

I don’t have a dog to walk, but I’m sure a hands-free umbrella would come in handy on multiple occasions. The umbrella, which was designed by Ryo Masaki, can be found in the Destination: Japan collection at MoMA, which highlights lifestyle products from Japan.

I don’t know how I feel about the pink and red hearts, but if they ever came out with a polka-dotted or solid color version, I’d be all over it.

First Impressions

When WOM World/Nokia contacted me about reviewing the new Nokia N95 8GB I was a bit hesitant to respond. Inside I was jumping up and down because, well, look at it! After a few emails back and forth I came to the conclusion that they probably will not come to my house and kill my cats, so I went for it. A few days later I was holding the phone in my little hands.

I don’t have a SIM card for it just yet so I haven’t been able to use many of the features, such as making calls, texting or trying out the web. But, I’m still trying to navigate my way around the phone.

First impression: Where do I even begin?! Despite having seen the picture of this phone, in all of my excitement I forgot that it slides to reveal the keypad. After spending about 30 seconds trying to turn it on, I searched for the keys. I want to make a phone call! Then I noticed the screen slides up and voila! Keypad! But wait, there’s more. If I slide the screen down I have play, stop, rewind, FF buttons. This leads me to believe this phone does so much more than just make phone calls.

I’ve tested out the camera quality and I have to say it’s quite amazing. So much better than the 2 megapixel camera my BB Pearl has. This bad boy boasts 5 megapixels.

Have I mentioned the 8GB of internal memory?! Eight! The full list of specs for this phone can be found here. It looks snazzy and cool. It’s not as sleek as I had hoped, but it wouldn’t be able to store so much if it were.

For the next three weeks this phone will be in my possession and I will enjoy every minute of it. I’m so anxious to learn more about it and share with everyone.

Do It Again

I envy the creativity of others. I come across a lot of things and wish I did that. I wish I knew HOW to do that!

I came across a pretty fantastic Apple Mac Music Video today while browsing through CrunchGear.

The video is for the the song Again & Again by The Bird and the Bee. The song is awesome. The video is awesome. Damn I wish I could do this!

BlackBerry Bold

The BlackBerry 9000 has been officially dubbed BlackBerry Bold. To be honest, I think it’s a stupid name, but hey, to each their own!

The phone itself is a pretty sweet piece of technology. If I wouldn’t have to consider selling a kidney for it, I might actually purchase it. That won’t be happening any time soon so I’ll have to live vicariously through others for a while.

Crackberry was nice enough to the features and specs for the new BB Bold:

Blackberry Pearl 8130 Review

After owning the Blackberry Pearl for nearly two months, I figured I should let you know how Barry, or Bar as he’s most often referred to, is doing.

The transition from my Verizon enV was difficult. I’m a big fan of the QWERTY keypad with one letter per key. The Pearl does that the QWERTY keypad, however the design is a bit funky. It took some time to get used to. The first time I tried texting I swear it took like two minutes to type my email address. It didn’t help that the predictive text was turned on. I am a multi-tap kind of gal. I’ve since gotten used to the keypad, but I suggest if you’re a super big fan of the single letter keys to stick to the Curve or original Blackberry.

A minor drawback is the lack of awesome accessories and tricks available for the 8130. The 8130 Pearl doesn’t have an LED light under the scroll ball so it is unable to change colors like the 8100. This doesn’t affect the function of the phone, I just enjoy extra aesthetics. There aren’t too many cool cases for this model either. You may think it will fit into an 8100’s case, but the cameras line up differently and the 8130 will be blocked.

The Blackberry Browser is pretty good compared to my last one. If you’re not happy with that, you can download Opera Mini for the Blackberry. I tend to use this one more because you can enlarge certain parts of the a website. Again, an aesthetic preference.

I don’t have many extra applications running on my Pearl though I’m sure there are many out there. I have Twitterberry and Facebook on my welcome screen. Oh! And I really enjoy being able to sync up to 10 email addresses. The organizational features are quite awesome as well. I recommend exploring the folders option.

Another cool feature is Blackberry Messenger. It’s texting meets AIM for Blackberry users. The best part is that it’s free! I like it because while I have free texts between Verizon users, I have some friends who don’t use Verizon that I text often. Using the BB messenger helps because I don’t run up my bill.

The camera is pretty sweet. It has a flash and three zoom options. It also lets you crop your photo right on your phone. I haven’t played with all of the camera’s features just yet.

One thing I do not like is the lack of memory. Since it is such a small phone, it can’t be expected to hang onto too much data. If you start losing texts that you know you didn’t delete, first check your settings. You might have it set to erase old things after 30 days. If that setting is not on, your memory could be filling up. It will start kicking out old things to make room for the new eventually. My recommendation is to buy a memory card for your phone. You can find one at your carrier or even online. It’ll help if you keep a lot of old texts, emails, photos and music.

Overall, the Pearl has grown on me. I love the sleek design and cuteness of it. I like being able to fit it into my pocket comfortably, much unlike my enV. I don’t like bulky gadgets. It’s a great phone to use for staying connected. If you’re not a crazy business person who plans to do all their work via phone, I think the Pearl is a good choice. I don’t think it’s a good phone for younger people, meaning the 13-17 group. I do think it suits women better than men though. It just strikes me as a girly phone, especially since it comes in pink. But hey, guys, if you have one, don’t worry! It doesn’t make you any less of a man!!

Cool things:
1. You can make your BB look like the iPhone with the iPhone theme. Be sure to check the requirements before downloading. Certain phones require certain operating systems.

2. Google Maps. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to get this to work on the 8130 just yet.

3. Gmail application. It’s not necessary if you plan on syncing your Gmail account to your phone. But it’s pretty amazing. I’m actually considering unsyncing my personal email just so I can use the spiffy gmail application.

TypeRacer

I found a way to kill time at work, but still appear to be enhancing your skills. Those are the same skills that your company depends upon you for. So technically, you’re bettering yourself for the sake of the company by playing TypeRacer. Me? Well I’m just playing it because I type hella fast.

Did I just say hella? Moving on…

TypeRacer is a game where you type a caption from a book or song and race against other typists. It’s like those games at a carnival where you roll balls into holes or shoot water into the clowns mouth to make the car or horse go faster. Plus, you get to find out how many words you type per minute.

Oh? You want to know how fast I type? 101 thanks. Need proof? I’m the red car. I should win a stuffed animal or something!

Give a gadget, win an iPhone

A couple weeks ago I wrote a post about Second Rotation. The lovely folks at SR emailed me to let me know that for every electronic sold or recycled through Second Rotation throughout the month of May, they will enter that person in a drawing to win a free iPhone.

If that’s not motivation to get rid of that extra computer you have laying around, I don’t know what is! Even if you don’t win the iPhone, you can still make money and clean out your closets.

Don’t forget, they don’t just accept computers. They also take game consoles, MP3 players, cell phones, digital cameras and GPS devices.
